Bord na Mona win Green Supply Chain Award 2012
Bord na Mona’s vision is to transform the Group into a sustainable provider of goods and services in the electricity, horticulture, heat, feedstock, clean air and clean water and waste management markets. Mitigating the Group’s greenhouse gas emissions, reducing its dependence on peat and maximising opportunities in the low carbon economy are core drivers of their transformation.
The Sustainability and Green Procurement program forms part of the practical application of this vision. Working with a diverse group of their most significant supplier stakeholders and led by the Procurement Group in Boora, Bord na Mona partnered with Nootrol to provide the technology to support this program and to manage the engagement process with their top 377 suppliers.
Their excellent engagement rates from across Tier 1, 2 and 3 of their supply chain and the speed at which their program was adopted by over 70% of their suppliers was a significant reason for them winning this prestigious award. With deep visibility into the sustainability policies and practices of their supply chain partners they are developing collaborative plans to reduce the use of carbon, water, waste and hazardous materials.
The Green Procurement & Sustainability Programme was initiated in September 2011 and all suppliers had engaged within 90 days. Comprised of a supplier sustainability scorecard and carbon, water and resource footprinting, the programme then moved onto Tiers 2 & 3.
